What Is Humanized C-section
Are you going to perform a cesarean ? That’s no reason to spoil the charm of the first date. Get to know what a humanized cesarean is.
If until a few years ago mothers, who underwent surgery to give birth, were separated from their children , today things have changed a lot thanks to the humanized cesarean, which respects the right of both sides to be together.
Every woman is eager to enjoy motherhood from the moment of birth. This is exactly what is allowed in hospital centers where this surgical procedure has been humanized.
The goal is to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the baby, who can be breastfed for the first half hour after birth.
If you are going to have a C-section and are not impressed to see the operation, you can ask that the curtain not be an impediment to seeing the birth. That way, you can follow this unforgettable moment.
Check for the possibility of being less sedated: many mothers, whose children are shown in the delivery room, later remember nothing because of the effects of anesthesia.
You should keep one of your arms free of the venous guide so that you can hug your little one (they put him on their chest close to your heart). That way, he will feel protected.
This new procedure has been used in many countries for several years. An example of this is the humanized cesarean section that has been used since 2016 at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service at the Infanta Elena de Valdemoro University Hospital, in Madrid.
Currently, hundreds of women undergo caesarean sections to give birth to their babies. Unfortunately, even today, many mothers are separated from their children after birth.
It is important that mom is not alone during the cesarean
Ideally, the father witnesses his son’s arrival in this world. However, if this is not possible, a family member should be allowed to accompany the mother so that she does not feel alone. This helps your stress level to decrease.
It has been shown that women who undergo cesarean are more likely to suffer from postpartum depression.
Skin-to-skin contact, before taking the newborn to be cleaned and examined, regulates the temperature and heart rate of the baby, who stops crying when he hears the mother’s voice, who will also feel happy and peaceful.
Often, due to the mother’s physical condition, the doctor will determine if a cesarean is imminent. But, as a humanized cesarean is a scheduled procedure, delivery can be better organized.
If, unexpectedly, the obstetrician announces the surgery and there is no time to prepare the procedure for a humanized cesarean, it is still possible that the birth can be made more considerate.
A right granted by law
In Spain, there is a network of women and professionals who provide up-to-date audiovisual material and scientific articles for mothers.
It is the Association of Users and Professionals of Maternal and Child Health Services “O Parto é Nosso”. Its aim is to provide psychological and legal support to women who have had cesarean sections and traumatic births.
What you are entitled to:
- Know all the information about the purpose and nature of each intervention, its risks and consequences.
- Interventions must be accepted by the mother. The absence of informed consent is in itself an indemnifiable moral damage. It is about the right to decide about one’s health and one’s body.
- The right to choose the kind of care women want can be seen in a document known as the Birth Plan. This must be presented to the hospital in advance for incorporation into the medical record.
- Although the presence of a companion during dilation and childbirth is not included in the patients’ bill of rights, the World Health Organization (WHO) contemplates this possibility, in view of the mother’s psychological well-being (recognized during the Beijing Conference).
- Your rights and those of your baby are included in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Get ready to meet your baby quickly, it will undoubtedly be the most special moment of your life.
