Help Your Child Discover Their Own Talents
Each individual has different abilities, some more developed than others. We reveal our abilities from an early age and, with them, we transform ourselves into useful individuals for our surroundings and for society. For this and many other questions, help your child discover his own talents from the first moment he lets them surface.
How can you help discover and develop your child’s talents?
These special abilities are found in human beings in three fundamental areas: intellectual, emotional, and motor. The child will demonstrate the capabilities he has in each of them according to their development and growth. This is where the perception of their parents or responsible adults comes into play to identify them.
The first step in helping to discover children’s talent is for parents to identify what they are capable of doing and what their main strengths and weaknesses are, according to the development they observe in their surroundings.
It is this appreciation that will help to clearly identify what skills children have and will also indicate the way forward to train them according to their own interests.
At what age does the assisted development of children’s talents begin?
From a very early age, practically from the moment of birth until the age of three, the child goes through a process of elaboration of their abilities. Many parents make the mistake of pressuring their child to do certain activities the way they feel is right, without giving them space to figure out how to act on their own.
There is nothing wrong with carefully guiding children, but it is necessary to allow them to develop freely enough in their surroundings. They must be the ones who must figure out how to do things on their own – with due precaution – under certain circumstances.
For example, if at three years of age the child does not hold the pencil well, we must remember that he is still in the process of motor development. Far from pressuring her, we must patiently teach her the correct way to do this.
Help your child discover their own talents from the moment they take their first steps. At the same time, strengthen your capabilities in each of the aforementioned branches without putting pressure on them. Later, pre-school education – between the ages of 4 and 6 – will boost the development of all his skills.
Achieve your true talents
After going through the activity pre-selection process, parents should be very attentive and determine if the child is really capable of performing them. This is a new opportunity to determine if her dexterity is motor, if she is ready for reading and research, or if, on the contrary, she likes to explore and discover.
To be sure that the activity is right and that it arouses real interest in the child, it is necessary to wait a prudent period to observe its evolution. This can take anywhere from 3 months – at least – up to a year. After that time, we can assess her performance and make sure she really enjoys what she does.
By the age of seven, children have the ability to decide which activities they really want to do and which they don’t. Consideration of what they want is essential if they are to make the most of their talents. In this way, they also distance themselves from the frustration produced by being forced to do something they don’t like.
Remember that your support is the foundation of children’s success.
At home, you have a child waiting to be different, eager to succeed and improve all his skills.
Always keep in mind that there is no one better to help you than your own parents. Help your child to discover his own talents so that, in the future, he will be an individual confident of himself and not afraid to face new challenges.
Remember that parental support is paramount to the child’s optimal development, both physically and mentally. Your child will always be happy to show you the accomplishments and successes he has had, and will seek refuge in you when he encounters failures and frustrations.
