9 Things You Should Keep Out Of Children’s Reach

Undaunted by nature, children often put their hands where they shouldn’t. Therefore, it is important to keep certain objects out of your reach.
9 Things You Should Keep Out of Children's Reach

We’ve all seen the phrase “keep out of reach of children” written on some product or object. There are things that are best kept secure so that our children don’t have access to them. Neglecting this aspect can have fatal consequences; here are some of those products.

9 Things You Should Keep Out of Children’s Reach

1.- Medicines

Failing to do this can be fatal for children. While it is true that medications are essential when our children fall ill, they should always be out of reach of children.

Imagine that maybe they think about taking a syrup or some pills because they got hurt while playing or because they were bitten by an insect. So, you have to be aware of where you leave the medicine.

2.- Toxic products

Another thing we should keep out of children’s reach is toxic products. That is, if we have a garden and keep some items at home to eliminate weeds or take care of the plants, or if we have other products to combat pests in the house, we should keep them out of the hands of the little ones.

These products are much worse than medications, as their deadly effects on children may not be treated at all.

As with toxic products, great care must be taken with detergents and cleaning products. This includes items such as surface cleaners, silver and other metals.

The best way to keep these products out of children’s reach is to keep them in a locked cabinet. Some choose to put them at the top, but the risk is that children will try to catch up. They could pile up chairs or other things to try to reach them, fall and seriously injure themselves.

3.- Knives and sharp objects

Knives and other sharp objects should also be kept out of children’s reach. It is very dangerous for our children to have access to them; they may want to cut a piece of paper or something else and thus have a serious accident.

We must be careful even when we are present at home or in the same room. It’s best to keep them out of your reach at all times.

4.- Small parts

At some stages of childhood, children put everything they find in their mouths. This happens during the oral phase and they do it as a method of discovering new sensations.

Then, a small piece can escape and go straight to your throat. You don’t have to explain much or be a genius to know what can happen; it is essential to be cautious.

5.- Outlets

This is a very important point and should not be overlooked. Keep outlets covered with covers and do not leave loose wires around the house. Children could plug something into the outlet and get an electrical charge that would, at best, be terribly startled.

6.- Cigarette smoke

Tobacco is extremely toxic to children. Smoke directly affects their growth and can cause serious illness in our children.

Therefore, we must keep smokers well away from our children. If you are one of them, it is better to go outside for a smoke.

7.- Glasses

It’s no secret that glass breaks and cuts. But children may ignore this fact or be unaware of the precautions to be taken when handling glass objects. Very easily, they could break them and end up with a huge cut that needs stitching.

8.- Tools

Have you ever noticed how small children hit and throw their toys? Well, imagine that you leave a hammer within your reach and they start to hit the ground or they hit your head… It’s not a pleasant image. Therefore, it is important to keep all tools out of the reach of children.

9.- The cell phone

Would you like your child to put their cell phone down the toilet? Well then, don’t leave it at your fingertips, because that can happen with any oversight. In that sense, don’t leave the restrooms open either, or you may find the child with his or her head in where you least expect it.

Following these practical suggestions can save you a lot of headaches and especially bad times. Also, of course, the care and well-being of our children is something that should always be our priority.
